As a second-generation family-owned and operated business, we take pride in continuing the legacy of excellence established by our immigrant father, George Karageorgos. Today, this tradition is faithfully carried forward by his daughter, Golfo Karageorgos, who serves with the same dedication to maintain the company’s legacy for generations to come.

Our Heritage

Our family’s fur shop was founded more than 40 years ago by our passionate Greek immigrant father, who had a vision to bring the artistry and elegance of fur fashion to discerning clients. He was inspired by the first wave of Greek and Jewish immigrants who settled in New York’s acclaimed Garment District and formed the fur center on Manhattan’s West Side. Through dedication, craftsmanship, and an unwavering commitment to quality, he built a reputation for excellence that endures to this day.

Our fur shop is more than just a business; it's a testament to the American Dream. From humble beginnings spent sewing into the wee hours on a fur machine, our patriarch George went on to build a team and expand to a larger location on Long Island — where we currently maintain an archive of design patterns and a wide selection of furs to meet the needs of all our clients.

My brother Chris and I started helping around the factory from a young age. We would separate and count tails by fur type and pass them to whoever needed them on the floor. One of my fondest memories is visiting with my father in his showroom on the 18th floor of a building in the Garment District. I tried on fur coats that were way too big for me and proudly paraded around the factory thinking I looked very glamorous. 

As we grew older, so did our responsibilities — from helping arrange shipments to being more hands on regarding daily management of the business. By our early 20s we started traveling with my father to trade shows all over the world, while exhibiting and showcasing our line to new markets. By 2010, the business was officially handed down to me. 

Our father's dedication to his craft was matched only by his profound respect for tradition and heritage. Drawing upon the rich legacy of fur artisans before him, he honed his skills and perfected his techniques, ensuring that each garment he created was a true work of art. His relentless pursuit of perfection set the standard that continues to define GK Furs to this day. He developed special techniques for designing, cutting and sewing wild fur garments and mastered working with lynx fur, which became his most sought-after skill. This skill set remains a large part of the DNA of our business to this day.
